The index of medical professionals and facility staff is an ongoing project. New updates will be posted weekly so please check back often!
Our index shows you the name and (when available) the location of the person; a brief title of the record, and if possible, the link to where the item was found. Please note that a specific location for a person listed is not always clearly provided in the article, advertisement, etc. When this occurs, no location will be listed beside the individuals name. However if a location is provided, the specific location will be written in parentheses next to the individuals name. (For example: Jones, David (New York)) If a location is not provided by the name, please review the description or record itself, as the information there may be able to provide the necessary details to help you in your search. We simply transcribe the information as it is provided and do not make assumptions even if they might seem obvious.

On the following pages you will find a list of physicians that I have come across so far. All physicians are listed in alphabetical order and divided amongst several pages. Under each physicians name is the available information where the name of the physician was found. Please see the example below:

Example:
DALE <--- name of physician (as you can see -- no first name or location is provided)
(1) Boston Medical Association, (2) Boston Medical and Surgical Journal, (3) Vol. LII, No. 15, 17 May 1855, pg. 307 (digital version) <--- (1) name of the article, advertisement, book, etc. It will always be italicized (2) medical journal in which the information was found, (3) the volume and number of journal, date, page (4) digital version is offered

Example:
DALE, John (Chicago) <---name of physician PLUS location is provided
(1) Article: (2) Boston Medical Association, (3) Boston Medical and Surgical Journal, (4) Vol. LII, No. 15, 17 May 1855, pg. 307 (digital version) <--- (1) name of the article, advertisement, book, etc. It will always be italicized (2) medical journal in which the information was found, (3) the volume and number of journal, date, page (4) digital version is offered

***Please note: Wherever the name was found, a location reference will be given. It will not always be a medical journal however. It might be a library, a newspaper, a medical directory, medical school record, etc. As much information will be provided as possible to help you with your research in locating the record.
You will see the following terms used throughout the index below. Please note their meaning:

Pg:AD: When you see this reference "pg:AD" instead of a page number within the record information, this is to let you know that the record in question is an advertisement of a school, hospital, etc. If the reference has a number in front of it, such as "pg:23AD" that is to state that the ad is on page 23. This is only done when a direct link to the exact page can not be done for whatever reason and you will need to go to that page yourself. Advertisements can show a list of doctors or employees and their position or where they are from. Since most ads do not actually have a page number, this is the easiest way we can come up with to reference these pages.
Any article, letter to the editor, notice, etc. within the publication will always be italicized. The reference can be one sentence, a small notice of information (such as a death notice or a location change), or multiple pages. The record can also simply be a reference to the person listed with no further information. (For example if the person is mentioned in the article by the author -- whether the mention is simply in passing, a small tidbit or detailed.)

Digital Version: You will see this term after some of the references. This link should take you to the referenced item. You may click the link to see the record or you may copy and paste the reference information into your search browser and do a manual search. I wanted to provide two options for any individual who may be hesitant about clicking the link.

Collage: You may see this term if the record is from a book or scrapbook and it is a collage of articles or pictures for an individual.
Please note that it is just me transcribing and indexing all records. I am human so I'm sure that errors will be made but I do my best to make sure that each index is correct and accurate. If you find an error, please feel free to let me know and I will do my best to correct it as soon as possible.
Requests will be answered within 24hrs of receipt. I appreciate your patience and understanding. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me at hystoricmd@gmail.com. I will be more than happy to help you as best as I can.
